Just twenty miles east of Ridgecrest, the Trona Pinnacles provide an "other-worldy" effect for photographers and other visitors. The Trona Pinnacles comprise North America's most spectacular display of tufa towers. Over 500 towers of stone, some climbing 150 feet into the sky, create the illusion of outer space. Movie fans will recognize the Pinnacles from "Star Trek V".
Cannell Meadow, in Kernville is a prime spot to ride your mountain bike this spring and summer. The ride starts at the top of the summit where you can view the beauty of Mt. Whitney and other major mountaintops. The length of this trail is approximately 25-30 miles. You will descend almost 5000 feet from start to finish; yet you will still climb at least 1000 feet on this ride. If you dare take on such a ride, this is an amazing trail.
